Two weeks are left until Czech carmaker Skoda, who is operating under the Volkswagen umbrella, will be unveiling the Vision IN, its first car specifically developed for the Indian market. And judging by the very dynamic teaser video released this week, the concept should be something extraordinary.
Guided by Volkswagen, Skoda has been on a constant rise in Europe and China. Its models are becoming more and more prominent in these respective markets, its technology better and better, and the brand’s image more upscale than it has ever been.
But there’s a new market in town, one that promises to topple any expectations. In the coming years, it is predicted India will experience a growth not unlike that of China, hence everyone is gearing up for what’s to come.
Being the direct representative of Volkswagen in the country, Skoda came up with a variant of the MQB platform called A0 IN. On it, it developed a concept car called Vision IN which will be shown on February 5 at the New Delhi auto show.
The car is a preview of a production vehicle that will be built specifically for India in the coming years, but its platform will be borrowed by India-specific Volkswagen models that are yet to be announced.
The styling of the concept does not stray too far from the usual Skoda design language, but it does bring a few elements that are not to be seen on any of the cars the carmaker currently sells.
The front grille and logo, for instance, are illuminated, and the stoplights have been designed around the edges of the rear end. Inside, there’s a multifunction steering wheel with knurl wheels, and the new operating system in the works in Mladá Boleslav
For now, Skoda did not say what powers the IN, nor what will make the production car this concept will spawn tick.
