In Mount Isa, Australian Police Officers Rode Hoverboards Today

Wait, who cares about hoverboards in Mount Isa? Do they even exist? Two questions you’re entitled to ask if it were any other regular day, but not today. October 21, 2015, does it ring a bell? Marty McFly, Doc Brown, the DeLorean Time Machine - you should expect hearing about these quite a lot today.

Doc Brown and Marty McFly have just brought the Toyota Mirai to the US, and we can’t think of any other better way to launch a hydrogen fuel cell-powered car. But enough with the travel through time puns, let us get serious for a change. Well, almost serious.

You see, Mount Isa is a city with a population of 22,013 located in the Gulf Country region of Queensland, Australia. It exists because of the vast mineral deposits found in the area, as Mount Isa Mines are among the most productive single mines in world history, based on combined production of lead, silver, copper and zinc.

In other words, we’re talking about a city situated in an arid area of the state’s vast north-western region, where there’s not much going on on a daily basis. Or at least that is what you would think, considering that a special unit of the Mount Isa Police Station whose officers travel on hoverboards had a very interesting case today.

It so happens that they have arrived at the scene of a car accident where a silver sedan crashed into a power pole near the cinema, only to find out the driver was speeding. Here’s the interesting part:

“The driver stated that he was doing 88 mph. A 17-year-old man was charged and was in possession of a license that expired over 30 years ago. Investigations into the vehicle and what a flux capacitor is, are ongoing. The Mount Isa Cinema received a loss of power to the building.”

Sounds quite familiar, doesn’t it? Heck, even the city’s mayor intervened advising locals that the power outage caused damage to the town clock, which has stopped working. “We have repairs underway to save the clock tower,” Mayor Tony McGrady said.

Hint: Today the world is celebrating Back To The Future Day.
