As I was telling you earlier, Toyota is releasing an improved version of its Aqua (Prius c) model this year, which will regain its top spot as the most fuel economic hybrid in the world after the Honda Fit Hybrid stole it in September.
The biggest change to the Aqua lies in its engine, that was improved to reduce friction in between its moving parts, allowing it to be turned off and on easier by the Start/Stop system, thus reducing its fuel consumption. This way the new Aqua can beat the Fit’s 36.4 km/l (2.74 l/100 km or 85.6 mpg US) fuel economy with an average of 37 kilometers per liter (2.7 l/100km or 87 mpg US) according to the JC08 Japanese standard.
In addition, the new Aqua comes with a retuned suspension, better insulating materials, water repellent front windows, Hill Start Assist Control and different colors on the speedometer.
The new Aqua will be available in Japan starting with December 2nd, with prices set at at ¥1.7 million ($16,699) for the L, ¥1.81 million ($17,779) for the S version, ¥1.87 million ($18,371) for the G and ¥1.95 million ($19,157) for the G "Black Soft Leather."
