With monomarque racing becoming increasingly popular as a showcase of a particular car, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati have their own racing series, with Porsche having several separate series. We are now here to zoom in on Maserati, which has updated its racer for this year's season.
The Trofeo MC World Series 2012 features an improved version of the Maserati GranTurismo race car. Despite it not sounding like much, a few aero tweaks and a weight reduction have reduced the car’s lap times by around 2.5 seconds per lap - that is a massive improvement just from aero and some weight shedding. The time measurements were done at the Vallelunga track, just outside Rome.

Another addition to this year’s Trofeo World Series, is the addition of venues outside Europe or the Middle East, and namely the Infineon Raceway in California and the Shanghai International Circuit.
