German carmaker BMW is expanding the range of more and more fuel efficient vehicles it has in Australia with the introduction in December of new versions of the three 3s it already has there.
According to the carmaker, the 330d and 335i models will come with better fuel consumption figures, without sacrificing any of the performances. To put words into numbers, the savings achieved by BMW's tweaks translate into savings of around 6 percent on average for the two models.
The 330d for instance will no longer eat up 6.8l/100 km, but 6,2. This represents a reduction of about 8.8 percent for the engine, which continues to produce the same 520 Nm of torque.
The 335i on the other hand gains the same amount when it comes to fuel consumption. The sedan drops its figure from 9.6l/100 km to 9.2l, meaning a 4.2 percent improvement.
To enhance the capabilities of its EfficientDynamics, BMW added for the new 330d version Brake Energy Regeneration and Electric Power Steering. For the 330i, the Brake Energy Regeneration is also newly fitted.
“Premium brands must set the pace when it comes to sustainability. BMW’s EfficientDynamics roll-out continues to deliver improvements in fuel consumption across a wide range of models, whilst retaining the typical BMW driving pleasure customers expect,” Stavros Yallouridis, BMW Australia managing director said in a release.
The upcoming release of the improved 3 Series comes after the 135i model won the Drive Best Performance Car over AU$60,000 for the second consecutive year at the 2009 awards.
