There are several ways you can do ‘80s nostalgia: oversize shoulder pads and clashing patterns, Billy Idol and Madonna songs, blue eyeshadow and crimped hair, or an obsession with working out.
But there is only one way you can do ‘80s nostalgia right, and that’s with a classic car. An impeccable Camaro IROC-Z has popped up on the auction block with Bring a Trailer. The 1985 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 IROC-Z shows 15,000 miles (24,140 km) on the clock but is in otherwise excellent condition.
The IROC-Z is often referred to as the “Camaro that thinks it’s a Corvette” and was a mass-produced but limited-edition special package for the Z28 Camaro Chevrolet. It’s a pony car that’s widely considered a precursor of the modern-day muscle car.
Built from 1984 to 1990, it got its name from the International Race of Champions and included highlights like upgraded suspension and lowered ride height, new shocks, the “wonder bar” steering brace, special decals, and the optional Tuned Port Injection system from the Chevrolet Corvette C4.
This 1985 IROC-Z up for sale has the Tuned Port Injection system, together with the IROC-Z decal over a silver paintjob, with gray interior and matching carpets. A 5.0-liter V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels.
The car has removable T-top glass panels, 16” alloy wheels, a Delco AM / FM/ cassette stereo (to blast your old Billy Idol and Madonna tapes), overhead console and powered windows. T-top storage bags are available in the trunk. Its Carfax history is clean, as is the New Jersey title. In fact, the car stayed with just one owner until it was sold to a dealership in North Carolina, which performed an oil change and listed it for sale.
The current bid is at $14,500 with two more days to go into the auction. When launched the IROC-Z cost $11,719 and its value has appreciated once it became a classic. The Classic Car Club of America rules that a classic is a car that’s been on the market for 30 years.
In other words, this one’s a good deal.
