In this behind-the-scenes video presentation, the IIHS takes us through how the safety body simulates rear crashes to assess how well vehicle seats and head restraints prevent whiplash.

The institute takes the seat out of the car and bolts it to a hydraulic powered sled that simulates a rear-end accident.
