iheartradio for Toyota in 2011

Japanese manufacturer Toyota is becoming the first carmaker which will offer its customers in the US access to the iheartradio services offered by Clear Channel Radio. The move will give Toyota owners access to some 750 radio stations (if anybody uses that many) starting with the beginning of next year.

More details about the new partnership and what it will mean for the automotive industry and rival in-car radio services providers will be disclosed at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas next January.

For now, the carmaker says it is working to find the best way to integrate the mobile app for iheartradio into selected, and yet unnamed, vehicles. The customer pool which the partnership opens is huge, as some 10.5 million people currently use the mobile application.

"Personalization is important to our customers.  Delivering iheartradio in the vehicle will allow our owners to customize their drive-time experience," said Jon Bucci, vice president advanced technology at Toyota. "I have always felt Toyota provides one of the best audio platforms and this partnership takes it even further."

iheartradio broadcasts the above mentioned number of radio stations on pretty much all smartphone platforms. Aside from the station, artists like Christina Aguilera, Weezer, Eagles, Maroon 5, Slash, Nikki Sixx broadcast their own artist-programmed channels, all in high-quality AAC format.

"Our iheartradio service is a perfect fit for the car, offering literally hundreds of radio stations and dozens of programming genres to choose from – whether that is your hometown favorite you grew up with, a station in the city you are driving in, or a category of music or information that engages you,” said Clear Channel Radio CEO, John Hogan.
