Based on how varied and surprising Audi design is these days, it's pretty easy to imagine what a truck wearing the four rings would look like. Well, maybe it's not exactly that easy, but one thing is certain: it wouldn't be anywhere near as exciting as these two design studies.
Two independent designers named Artem Smirnov and Vladimir Panchenko decided to show Audi designers how it's done and came up with two concepts for a fictional truck that, put bluntly, look a lot better than any current Audi model or any of the Ingolstadt brand's more recent prototypes.
The initial plan for the project called "Truck for Audi" was to follow two distinct directions - an autonomous electric truck destined for highway cruising and an "electric truck show car" - see where they lead, and then choose the best of the two. In the end, they couldn't part with any of the two, and a brief look at the photo gallery below will immediately show why.
While both are spectacular in their own right, we wouldn't hesitate for one second if given the chance to choose only one: it's the second proposal, the crazy oil tanker with off-road wheels and Formula One-like cockpit for two drivers. It's ridiculous, but also beautiful.
The front looks like a smartphone, and so probably has the same impressive aerodynamic coefficient, but none of that really matters when it manages to look this cool. Besides, it's way better than the fridge-face the other truck is sporting - not that we don't like it.
Let's ignore for a second the paradox of having an electric oil tanker, and focus on the two drivers sitting on top of the cabin in a pair of open-top cockpits placed so far back that all cars should drive with ten-foot flag poles to stand a chance of being spotted. Why exactly it needs two of them is anyone's guess, as is the presence of their oxygen masks, but when it all adds up to this gorgeous package, it's hard to complain about any of it. And when you see the tractor's Ferrari Dino inspired rear, you're sold for good.
