A 21-year-old male driver from Idaho was involved in a car crash and survived pinned under his truck for 2 days. The rescue operation was difficult but successful.
In what seems like a scenario from action movies, authorities say that a missing person has been found stuck under a rolled-over truck. The Idaho Falls Fire Department and the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office were alerted that a truck had been found at the bottom of a ravine near Idaho Falls.
It turns out that the caller had been actively looking for the driver, who had been reported missing for an unspecified amount of time. The area had no phone signal and poor radio coverage, which explained why the truck driver himself hadn’t been able to call for help.
“The 911 caller reported the discovery of a three-quarter ton white pick-up truck approximately one-half mile off Canyon Road, about 20 minutes southeast of Idaho Falls. The 21-year-old male driver of the pick-up truck had been missing for several days and was found by someone who was actively searching for him in the area,” authorities say in a statement.
The truck fell down a ravine and landed wheels upwards in a narrow creek bed. The driver had been partially ejected from the vehicle but was pinned under it, without any possibility of moving it so he could free himself. When EMTs arrived, he was conscious, despite his injuries and the time he’d spent pinned under the truck.
Because of the area where the accident happened, the rescue operation was difficult but a success in the end.
“Using large airbags that were inflated under the vehicle, as well as heavy extrication equipment, firefighters were able to get the young man out of the vehicle and stabilized by medics. He was then transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center by Life Flight Network in stable condition,” authorities say.
The truck was later removed from the scene of the accident by a large boom truck from a local towing company. The man’s identity has not been made public.
