RM Auctions has revealed that the iconic 007 Lotus Esprit “Submarine” car used in the “James Bond - The Spy Who Loved Me” motion picture will be auctioned off in London in September.
The fully functioning “submarine” car was built by Perry Oceanographic in Florida and operated by retired US Navy SEAL Don Griffin in the famous movie that featured Roger Moore as James Bond. Developing the 007 Esprit cost $100,000 back in the 1970s, the equivalent to nearly $500,000 today. The vehicle was mostly kept in storage until now, being shown occasionally at several events since 1989.
RM Auction also sold the Aston Martin DB5 driven by Sean Connery in the “Goldfinger” and “Thunderball” movies for an astounding £2.9 million (€3.4 million / $4.4 million) in 2010.

Over the years, millions of moviegoers have stared in awe as the Lotus transformed itself into a submarine, and now, perhaps one of them will have an opportunity to own it.
