Fashion protective gear manufacturer Icon is also famous for the concept bikes proudly bearing the I badge. However, it looks like Icon is slowly making a very interesting move into the real-world racing scene, as the latest custom bike manufactured crosses the border between pure concept and true racing machines… and for the better, I’d say. Welcome the Icon Kawasaki ZX3-RR, a twist of the small Ninja we didn’t see coming.
Icon has teamed up with the sport branch of Kawasaki USA and the goal was to deliver a true racing bike which would boast both track-worthy performance and affordability as its two key features. With Dorna Sports looking forward to establish a new racing series in the US, mainly focused on young talents, seeing such machines becoming available for decent prices makes everything even better.

With a completely revised, race-ready fairing, the original Ninja 300 is rather hard to spot. The chassis was kept in stock trim to keep the costs down, but a new, taller rear subframe was added for better ergonomics, and a braced swingarm now provides more rigidity for better performance under racing conditions.

One of the coolest things about the Icon Kawasaki ZX3-RR is the new approach to the dash instruments. Icon opted for an Android OS tablet supplied by Samsung, and it integrates readouts and tweaking capabilities. That is, the tablet-based dash delivers critical info such as speed, revs and other engine-monitoring variables, such as coolant temperature and voltage, but it also allows riders to monitor lap times, change fuel maps and broadcast info to social networks. Obviously, a great feature the young riders will like, don’t you say?

The Icon Kawasaki ZX3-RR is equipped with Ohlins suspensions, K&N filters, EBC brake componentry, PBI spockets, Arrow QuasiStinger dual shotgun carbon fiber exhausts and rolls with ContiRaceAttack tires. The price is not known to us at the time of writing but reports mention that these bikes have already started to appear on the tracks across the US, so we might have a good start here, with the bike entering production phase.
