So much for stepping into the new year with a fresh, more upbeat, and kinder take on everything in life. The war between EV and ICE owners is still raging strong, as evidenced by reactions to a new viral pic.
Available below is the original tweet by @TheTeslaLife (via Teslarati). It shows a lifted Ram 4x4 truck with a hilarious sticker on the back, reading “I identify as a Prius,” with the plug of the Tesla Supercharger shoved up the exhaust. The caption to the photo tags the Oregon Electric Vehicle Association (OEVA), and includes a question as to what should be done when one is witness to such instances of ICEing.
ICEing (or ICE-ing) is the practice of ICE (internal combustion engine) cars blocking access of electric vehicles to charging stations, either by parking in EV spots or directly in front of the chargers. Most instances of ICEing are openly defiant acts against EV owners and the so-called electric revolution.
In the past, several instances of ICEing have made international headlines and ultimately enhanced the animosity between the two groups of vehicle owners. ICE-ing has also prompted similar acts of protest by EV owners, where they drove in groups and blocked gas stations for several minutes to show ICE owners what it was like to have to wait because someone was deliberately blocking access.
This is also ICEing, though the idea behind the photo might have started as a joke. The fact that the owner of this Ram that “identifies as a Prius” put the plug into the soot-filled exhaust means the Tesla owner that followed had to first clean it in order to be able to use it. At the same time, even if it was a joke, it still meant blocking access to the charger to someone who needed it.
As expected, reactions to the viral photo have been virulent in the EV community, both on the Tesla-dedicated blog and the comments, and on social media. One thing we can probably cross off our list for 2021: the end of the dispute between EV and ICE owners.

What can be done to prevent ICEing like this at public EV charging sites? What do you do? What have you heard being done? Any ideas to add @OEVAorg ? pic.twitter.com/VmLRKkDvPm
