Hyundai has been trying to sell the Veloster Turbo as a hot hatch for a while now, yet it never managed to convince anybody, even with its 201 hp US power output, because it suffered lackluster steering and soft-ish suspension. Now, they have detuned the engine for the European market (though, we don't really understand why) and have launched the car in the UK, with prices starting from £21,995.
The UK-spec car is powered by the same 1.6-liter turbocharged engine, which has now been tuned to produce 184 hp and 265 Nm (195 lb-ft). This means that this warm-hatch is good for 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 8.4 seconds and 133 mph (212 km/h) - numbers which frankly fail to impress.

However, things get better on the combined cycle, where the Veloster Turbo averages a very respectable 40.9 mpg (6.9 l/100km). Things get better when one considers the equipment added to the Turbo, over the regular model - stuff like stiffer dampers, new bumpers and grille, a rear diffuser and modified exhaust, 18-inch alloys, as well as newly-designed leather seats and a 7-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system and sat-nav.
