While we wait for Hyundai to complete the development of the new Tucson (ix35 in Europe), the carmaker has come up with something to keep us busy. Meet the Hyundai Tucson The Walking Dead Special Edition.
This is a nod to fans of the novel series, or, why not, Hyundai’s view of what we should do if the Zombie Apocalypse ever takes place. Remember, this is an OEM development, so don’t expect any power tools to show up.
It all starts with the Ash Black exterior hue of the crossover. Fans will definitely be pleased by the fact that they can choose their side - the Tucson can be personalized by choosing one of the four available decals Hilltop, Kingdom, Saviors and Survivors. Oh and let’s not forget the custom badging.
Climbing aboard in the way un-undead people do, which is by simply opening the door, we find a rather discrete choice of thematic elements. Thus, the floor mats are branded, there’s a special The Walking Dead welcome screen for the 7-inch touchscreen display, while the Black leather seats are serious enough for the job. This is all adorned with a “Zombie Survival Kit” that brings items such as zip ties and an emergency poncho.
Hyundai’s Tucson The Walking Dead comes with the strongest powertrain in the range. The crossover features a 2.4-liter naturally-aspirated unit delivering 182 hp and 177 lb-ft (240 Nm) of torque. This works with a six-speed automatic transmission and, according to Hyundai, you can survive the Zombie Apocalypse relying solely on front-wheel drive (all-wheel drive is optional).
As for the pricing, the automaker is inviting you to “see your Hyundai dealer before you’re dead!”
