Hyundai Tucson, ix35 Come with BorgWarner Parts

American supplier BorgWarner announced today it has signed a contract with South Korean manufacturer Hyundai to supply several engine and drivetrain parts for the 2010 Tucson and ix35. The parts in question include a chain timing system, friction packs and roller one-way clutch assemblies and glow plugs.

"BorgWarner's engine and drivetrain technologies are designed to reduce emissions, increase fuel economy and improve performance," Tim Manganello, BorgWarner CEO said in a release. "BorgWarner is proud to contribute these benefits to these exciting, all-new vehicles."

The ix35, expected to be released in 2010, will be offered with both diesel and gasoline configurations. The diesels will come in the form a new R 2.0-liter unit developing either 184 horsepower and 392 Nm of torque or 136 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque. A second unit is available as well, the 1.7-liter which releases 115 horsepower and 255 Nm of torque.

The Tucson on the other hand features the Theta II 2.4-liter DOHC inline four-cylinder engine that generates 176 horsepower and 168 lb.-ft of torque. The engine will be coupled to either a six-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC manual control or a standard six-speed manual gearbox.

The gearbox is also assembled with the help of BorgWarner, who will supply a number of components for the transmissions. Several models featuring the new transmission family will be launched in the future, including Hyundai's new Tucson, Sonata and Santa Fe, as well as Kia's new Sorento and Borrego (Mohave).
