The new 2016 Prius might have been revealed in Las Vegas, but Toyota is still keeping the car's specs in their secret safe. That's a good enough reason for us to continue speculating about the so-called Hyundai AE.
As we've previously reported, the Korean carmaker is looking to counterattack Toyota's green efforts with a hybrid that will offer similar performances and efficiency as the Prius. However, even though the 2016 Prius has finally arrived, we don't know anything about its capabilities.

The pictures you'll see in the photo gallery were not captured by a professional team of spy photographers, but by an Indian Autos Blog reader.

Interestingly enough, the test mule was spotted testing in the US. To be more precise, in Death Valley, California. Rumor has it this hybrid will be underpinned by the same platform as the 2016 Hyundai Elantra, therefore, will be front-wheel driven.

From where we're standing, the prototype looks a lot like the Prius, but with more rounded edges. However, the excessive use of camouflage makes it impossible to go further with trying to guess how the car will look like.

As far as the powertrain is concerned, word on the street is Hyundai's hybrid will embrace a 1.6-liter petrol mill with around 118 horsepower working closely with an electric motor. The duo could be harnessed using a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox, but again, that's just what the rumor mill dropped on the internet, as no official info arrived on Hyundai's behalf.

Inside, previous sets of spyshots allowed us to see a gear selector inspired by those offered by Peugeot's 208 and 308 hatchbacks. In the practicality department, the boot seems ready to accommodate at most two medium-sized bags while the backseat will only offer enough comfort conditions for two occupants, rather than three. In any case, we'll keep you posted and maybe in the meantime, Hyundai's PR voice drops some hints on the vehicle.
