Here’s a South-Korean automaker that’s fully prepared to give us a spectacular 2021. Just the other day, Hyundai showcased the 2.0-liter turbo-equipped Kona N high-performance crossover (still dressed up in full-body camouflage) via an extensive image gallery. Now it’s time for the group’s new offspring – the connected EV brand IONIQ - to highlight its upcoming first arrival.
Ever since Hyundai split the new IONIQ marque from the mothership, we already knew the first arrival for the freshly minted brand would be the IONIQ 5 CUV. The time has passed quickly since then but it was well spent by the automaker, which announced a lot of sustainable developments, such as the dedicated E-GMP architecture or the decision to fully pursue the hydrogen alternative as well.

Now it’s just about time to see many of these daring business moves come to EV fruition, with Hyundai providing us with the first glimpse of the IONIQ 5 ahead of its scheduled arrival sometime next month. Unlike the Kona N, this time around the gallery is a bit small – we have just three new photos of the EV crossover, but at least the car isn’t clad in camouflage.

Instead, the company has decided that video footage should be the one in abundance on this occasion, so we have no fewer than four short features embedded below. According to IONIQ, the new 5 CUV will have the new “Parametric Pixelssignature look, which is showcased in the attached gallery along with those interesting turbine-style alloys.

More so, the IONIQ 5 has been tasked with the official global debut of the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), as well as Hyundai’s first-ever “clamshell hood that spans the entire width of the car.” By the way, the four videos showcase some of the core features, such as the Vehicle to Load (V2L) technology (acting as general power supply – 110/220V) or the ultra-fast charging ability.

Using the latter, the IONIQ 5 is said to be capable of juicing up with enough energy for more than 100 km (62 miles) of range in just five minutes. By the way, Hyundai promises we’ll get to know more about the IONIQ 5 as the reveal date approaches, so this is just the beginning of the teasing campaign.
