Hyundai will initiate a recall campaign for 205,233 units of the 2007 and 2008 Veracruz and Santa Fe models in the US due to the fact that the dirver’s airbag may not deploy in the event of a crash, as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.
It seems that the clock sprint contact mechanism for the driver’s airbag may wear in time, which could lead to a high resistance for the electrical circuit of the airbag, a situation that could lead to a the system not deploying.
So far, Hyundai has received 6,730 warranty claims and 13 customer complaints about the problem in the Hyundai Santa Fe cars and 1,083 warranty claims and three customer complaints about the defect in the Veracruz vehicles.
The recall will debut this month with Hyundai dealers replacing the driver’s airbag clock spring in the affected cars. Hyundai insisted that the owners should only contact dealers for an appointment if the “Air Bag” warning lamp comes on.
