South Korean automaker Hyundai could add a pickup to its United States vehicle lineup, the company's vice president in charge of international sales, Lee In-cheol, said.
Although the manufacturer has no real plans to produce a pickup, Lee claims Hyundai is studying the possibility for an US truck after several dealers had asked for one.
"We do not have a pickup truck. Other than that, we cover almost every segment," Lee told Automotive News. "We are studying that one very hard - what kind of pickup truck we should produce, if we have to. Is it a big-size pickup truck like in the United States or a small kind of pickup truck?"
However, the Koreans don't see the pickup as a big priority, so it might take a while until a new foreign truck crosses the Pacific.
"We are doing a good job in recent years without a pickup truck," Lee said of Hyundai's sales. "A pickup truck is important, but it's not a big priority for our company. But we have to consider how to respond. It is under study."
