The popular i20 from Hyundai is getting revamped for 2012. The car gets new styling cues along with a new 1.1-liter/ 74 hp diesel engine coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox. The manufacturer claims that it’s the most efficient non-electric car on sale today and with a combined fuel economy figure of 88.3 mpg (3.2 l/100km) and a CO2 figure of just 84 g/km, we have no reason to doubt them.
The updated range kicks off at £9,995(€12.230) for the 1.2-liter petrol model and rises to £14.295 (€17.500) for a fully-specced 1.4-liter diesel car. The basic ‘Classic’ model (the base of the range) comes equipped with air-conditioning, electric front windows, six airbags, ESP, CD player with USB connectivity and central locking as standard.

Further up the range, the ‘Blue’ trim does away with the air-conditioning, while opting for a stop-start system and low rolling-resistance tires. It’s only available with the new 1.1-liter diesel and it will set you back £11,795(€14,437). The ‘Active’ trim adds color-coordinated bumpers and mirrors, 15 inch alloys and front fog lamps while inside it gets a leather wrapped steering wheel and gear knob along with Bluetooth connectivity. It’s offered with the entire choice of available engines. The price for an ‘Active’ spec car with a 1.4-liter petrol engine is £12.095(€14.800).

If you want even more kit on your i20, you’ll have to go for the ‘Style’ trim level which adds goodies such as 16 inch alloys, LED DRLs, automatic wipers and lights, rear parking sensors and climate control. It’s offered with both petrol engines and the more powerful 1.4-liter diesel which costs £14.295(€17.500).
