Hyundai i20 Cross Test Mule Spotted in Southern Europe, Might Go Global

Hyundai is busy these days, no doubt about it, judging from the high frequency our carparazzi keep on sending in spyshots.

This time, it's the so-called Hyundai i20 Cross they spotted during testing, somewhere in Southern Europe under hot weather.

As you might happen to know, Hyundai launched the i20 Cross a couple of months ago, but only for the Philippines market as the i20 Cross Sport. There, it is offered with either a 1.4 Kappa Petrol with Dual MPI with VIS (Variable Intake System) or a 1.4 U2 CRDi Diesel, with 5-speed manual transmission and 6-speed manual transmission respectively.

Coming back to the test mule spotted by our team of spy photographers, they have the steering wheel mounted on the left side like it's customary in Europe (except for the UK and Cyprus).

This suggests Hyundai is taking a global approach with the i20 Cross after all, otherwise why would they test it on another continent?

Also, the interior is thoroughly disguised, which means the Koreans have done some work to take the cabin's quality to a level that's more appealing for the European clientele.

The exterior shows some widened wheel cases and side skirts all around the car with a higher suspension and an extra roof railing. If the car enters production, we expect this model to be a competitor against the VW Cross Polo and Dacia Sandero Stepway.

The Filipino i20 Cross Sport offers a ground clearance of 170 mm, complemented by side mouldings and claddings, along a skid plate. That's all we can speculate on so far, but we'll keep you updated as new info emerges.
