The Hyundai i20 Active made its European debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2015, and we were there to see it all. This discrete little hatchback stood in the company of the i20 WRC race car, so it didn't get too much attention. However, considering it competes against the popular Dacia Sandero Stepway, it might sell well.
You might think the i20 is a Korean car, but the Active version was actually developed for and in India. Still, it has many qualities modern European families look for in a weekend adventure car.

Hyundai designers sent the i20 to the gym to make the Active model. It has a lot of personality, thanks to beefy bumpers with silver accents and black protective body cladding. The headlights have also been tweaked, adding LED daytime running lights and large chromed surfaces.

When you want to get away for the weekend, the i20 Active's silver roof rails are going to come in handy. Increased ride height also helps you deal with rougher terrain, but without AWD there's no chance of doing serious off-roading.

What do we like about the i20 Active?

Well, the car competes in the same segment as the Dacia Sandero Stepway. While the Romanian model is cheap and quite popular, you can have every feature imaginable on the i20 Active.

Sales have already begun across most European markets with a high level of standard kit being offered. Things like keyless start and electrically folding mirrors place the model in a different league to any Dacia.

It's not a bad looking machine either, especially in this light blue color. The 326-liter standard boot capacity is impressive to say the least.

In terms of what clients should expect under the hood, we can tell you the Hyundai i20 Active will receive the carmaker's new 1.0-liter turbocharged engine with two outputs: 100 and 120 PS. A 1.4-liter diesel will come along any day now.
