Hyundai i10 Gets 10,000 Orders Through UK Scrappage

Hyundai is one of the companies which benefit the most from the UK scrapping scheme and, after announcing very high sales for most of its models, the automaker comes back in front of the media representatives to reveal another achievement: the i10 has received more than 10,000 orders since the UK programme started.

This means that approximately one in 12 orders, and we're talking about all automakers eligible for the scrapping scheme, goes to Hyundai's i10, according to autocar.co.uk. Overall, the South Korean manufacturer recorded 17,000 orders through the campaign.

"It’s crucial that we get the cars out to buyers as soon as possible, and not only because the customers want their nice new car. The government funds are fast running out, and we want to make sure Hyundai buyers can secure their slice of the scrappage handout before the scheme ends," Tony Whitehorn, Hyundai’s managing director, said.

Back in April, Hyundai revealed that its enquiries grew by around 400 percent since the United Kingdom announced the scrapping scheme, with i10, i20 and i30 the most popular models across the range.

"We've just had a delivery of 800 i10s and i20s and we will get them out to dealers in time for mid-May when the scheme is expected to go live," Tony Whitehorn, Hyundai UK's managing director, was quoted as saying by Just-auto.com three months ago.

"We expect these, and our existing stocks, to sell quickly though and so are negotiating with the factory to secure more production and keep up with the expected demand. This is a great opportunity for car buyers to move up to a cleaner, safer and more reliable new car and we don't want to disappoint a single customer," Whitehorn concluded.
