Hyundai Green Baby, First Photo of the iQ Challenger?

The supermini segment of the market becomes more and more appealing for car manufacturer. There is no doubt, seeing the Toyota iQ running for the 2009 World Car title, that small size, combined with "green" technology (the iQ is also nominated for the World Green Car award), might be one way to go in the near future.

Hyundai will join the mini fight, as it is working on the development of the Green Baby (GB). The four seater, similar in size to the iQ and Smart 2+2, is rumored to become available sometimes at the end of 2010, as Autocar reported.

The GB will most likely be powered by one of Hyundai's small engines, either a 1.0l four cylinder or a three cylinder 800 ccm engine that will be developed for the new mini, according to Hyundai sources quoted by hyunday-blog.com.

The car will be too small in size for it to be made available on the US market, but the Green Baby will surely be seen on the streets of Europe and some Asian countries. For China and India, for example, a low-cost version of the Baby will probably become available in the next two years.

What could be the first photo of the Green Baby surfaced today, thanks to Autobild. The picture show a bulky, solid vehicle, that despite being smaller than the i10 hatchback, will turn some heads. As Hyundai insiders said, the Green Baby will stand out in a crowd, but at the same time will be a very simple and functional vehicle.
