Hyundai Equus to Sell in the US

Hyundai's new limousine, the Equus, will go to the US after all. According to sources close to the matter who spoke with Inside Line, the American Equus will be powered by a 5.0l V8 engine, backed by a eight-speed automatic transmission.

This unit is able of developing a maximum power of more than 420 horsepower, making it able to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 6 seconds and a maximum speed of approximately 250 km/h.

"You didn't hear it from me. But you wouldn't be far off if you said the car was coming to the United States. Our chairman wants it," the unnamed source told the aforementioned source.

But if you are already planing to cruise down the neighborhood in an Equus, there is some waiting to do, as the luxury car is not set to enter the US market for at least two or three years. As for prices, given that the car is still a few years away, it is hard to know where will it stand.

Still, some speculation in order. The Equus is priced for the Korean market at around $96,000 (won 130,000,000). The sources who leaked the info about the US Equus says that the company is planning to bring that price down to around $50,000.

We are not convinced that will be the possible, supposing that it will maintain current equipment levels, because it would mean bringing the price almost 50 percent lower than on its home market. Still, the 2009 New York Auto Show, where the car is on display, might be a good way of measuring public response to the Equus.
