Hyundai Equus to Hit the US This Summer

Although some people might consider an expensive luxury sedan is not appropriate for such a difficult market like the one in the United States, especially if taking into account the economic chaos in the country, Hyundai is going to launch its new Equus in the US as soon as this summer. According to a report by USA Today, Hyundai hopes the revised large sedan is capable of competing with BMW 7 Series, Mercedes S-Klasse and Lexus LS 460L, three model that have already been around for a while.

Hyundai Equus went on sale in the domestic market last month but the American version isn't expected to be launched sooner than this summer. It might seem the South Korean automaker aims to test the US market with around 100 Equus luxury sedans.

"We have modest expectations," spokesman Oles Gadacz was quoted as saying by the aforementioned source. But even so, Hyundai hopes that a potential success of the recently-launched Equus "would decisively shift public opinion in our favor. It would be the capstone," as the Hyundai official added.

A thing worth mentioning is that Hyundai is already present in the United States luxury sedan sector, with Genesis currently being offered in two flavors, as a sedan and as a coupe. According to data released by the same source and provided by Autodata, Hyundai sold 6,021 Genesis sedans this year through April, with this particular model being priced at $32,250 for a V-6-powered version and at $42,000 for the top-of-the-range V-8 model.

A report released in April hinted that the Equus, which comes with a price tag of $96,000 (won 130,000,000) in South Korea, is going to be offered for around $50,000 in the United States.
