Hyundai Donates $6.8M for Pediatric Cancer

Announced at the beginning of September, during the National Childhood Cancer Awareness month, the Hyundai Hope on Wheels initiative concluded, with the ones which organized it now adding the numbers and trying to see what the effects of the actions undertaken last month will be.

South Korean manufacturer Hyundai announced today, as promised since September, that it will donate $6.8 million to hospitals and non-profit organizations from all over the US to help them support cure research and programs to improve the lives of children with cancer.

"The stories we heard this September from parents and children remind us that we have made great strides in the treatment of childhood cancer, but that there is still much work to be done," said John Krafcik, Hyundai Motor America CEO.

“We share their hope, determination and commitment, and promise to continue our work until we've found a cure together."

The Hope on Wheels campaign, currently supported by all of the 800 Hyundai dealers in the US, consisted of a national television campaign and in-dealership communications. In addition, Hyundai visited the 68 hospitals and non-profit organizations which will each be given $100,000.

According to Hyundai, the Hope on Wheels initiative managed to raise since its inception in 1998 $23 million for the cause.

"The children and families fighting pediatric cancer look to us to be their voices, and Hyundai's September initiative allowed us to spread the word about fighting childhood cancer to a larger audience then we have ever reached before," Mike Kelly, a Hyundai dealer and Hope on Wheels Foundation member added.
