Hyundai Could Go Down the Pickup Path In the Future

Hyundai Motor Company might be interested in building a production pickup truck for the American market, but this is a rumor circulating around for the last years or so. However, the company’s recent presence in Detroit and good feedback from potential customers might change the game.

If Hyundai decides to play the pickup truck game, there will be a lot of obstacles to overcome and the most difficult one is breaking into a market dominated by USA’s Detroit Three. But since the South-Koreans decided to unveil the Hyundai Santa Cruz pick-up prototype in Detroit, we could say that something might be in the making.

Moreover, Hyundai Motor Co’s Park Byung-cheol told Reuters that ‘the Santa Cruz crossover truck concept got good response’ at the 2015 Detroit Motor Show earlier this year. The official went on and added that although the company is considering producing pickup trucks, the initiative suffered a few setbacks.

In addition, Hyundai said that the Santa Cruz concept was designed after the company turned its ears to the public and listened to what the customers need: a mix between a crossover and a pickup truck that can carry a lot of things.

As everything is possible at this stage, all we can do is sit around and wait for more things to happen. Maybe the pickup world doesn’t need another Honda Ridgeline at the moment or maybe something different would hot up competition in the long term.

Either way, Hyundai will have to think twice if not trice before coming up with a pick-up truck, since a hexagonal grille up front and big alloy wheels won’t be enough to attract the clientele, at least not in the United States.
