Hyundai Breaks Record in the UK: Sells More than 15,000 Cars in March

Hyundai announced today that it had broken a commercial record in March 2010, selling 15,241 cars in the UK and setting the company's best monthly result ever. The previous best month was September 2009, when the Korean carmaker sold 11,031 units.

This sales total is remarkable considering that we sold 28,036 cars in the whole of 2008” said Tony Whitehorn, Hyundai UK’s managing director. “We have now sold more than half that figure in just one month!”, added the official.

The scrappage scheme contributed to Hyundai's result, but not decisively. Only one in three of the March registrations were due to the scrappage program. “Many industry observers have viewed the enormous success Hyundai has had with scrappage and assume that our sales will collapse once the scheme ends. These figures prove that Hyundai has built up a strong following and its success will continue long into the future”, said Whitehorn.

The best-selling car of the Hyundai range was the i10 city car, a total of 6,195 units of this model being sold. The i30 followed with 4,584 units and the i20 came in third, with 3,570 units. At the end of March dealers received the all-new ix35 crossover, which has already had the most successful launch of any new Hyundai car, over 500 customers having ordered the new model in the first two weeks.

Scrappage supercharged Hyundai up the sales charts and into the mainstream. Exciting new product, great quality and sensible pricing policies will ensure that Hyundai stays there,” explained Whitehorn Hyundai's strategy.
