Although they're on the market for a while now, 2015 could be the year when smartwatches will go mainstream. Multiple smartphone manufacturers are continuing to put them out while automakers try to make them compatible with the car world. Hyundai, for example, will unveil a new smartwatch app with voice recognition at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
The next generation Blue Link System from Hyundai will first be available on the 2016 Elantra GT and the Veloster models. Along with that, the automaker made a new app for smartwatches which enables users to remote start, lock and unlock doors as well as find their car in a crowded parking lot.
“This new app expands Hyundai’s exploration into how wearable technology and Blue Link fit into a customer’s lifestyle,” said Barry Ratzlaff, executive director, customer connect and service business development, Hyundai Motor America. “Connecting to your car through a smartwatch and voice recognition was previously something seen only in science fiction movies. Now, we can provide this capability to owners of Hyundai vehicles equipped with Blue Link.”
Using the new app will be a piece of cake. You simply tap the icon and choose what to do from the available commands list. Tapping the microphone icon within the app will let you say a command to not distract you from other activities.
The Blue Link Smartwatch features (all voice activated) include Remote Engine Start/Stop, Remote Door Lock/Unlock, Remote Flash Lights/Honk Horn, Car Finder, Call Roadside and Call Blue Link.
