Hyundai’s “baby” Sonata compact sedan, officially known as the Mingtu, was revealed ahead of its Shanghai Auto Show debut scheduled later this week.
Leakead through what appears to be a billboard located near the automaker’s stand at the Shanghai Auto Show, the sedan which was previously dubbed Sonata Lite by the Chinese media shows up styling cues borrowed from its slightly bigger brother, but sports exclusive exterior details as well, including new headlamps.
In case you're still wondering what this contraption is all about, Hyundai developed the Mingtu to fill the gap between the Elantra and the Sonata in a new Chinese niche segment. Moving on, the new compact sedan is rumored to be priced from CNY140,000 ($22,700) through CNY180,000 ($29,000) and word has it the vehicle should be available with 1.8 and 2.0-liter engines and either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
Official details and photos will be revealed on April 20, as the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show opens its doors to the press.
