A lot of rumors about the upcoming 7 Series are currently being thrown around, varying from 1.5-liter engines to M7 models. This weekend I told you about the possibility of a brand new hybrid model to come out with the new generation, borrowing eDrive technology from the i3.
Our latest spy video seems to confirm my allegation, showing a prototype of the G11 7er testing alongside the current BMW Active Hybrid 7. If this was not done for comparison reasons, what would justify testing it against the biggest hybrid in the Bavarian parking lot?
At the moment, hybrids aren’t very popular amongst BMW customers. A variety of reasons might explain this draught but in the end it all comes down to the price/performance ratio that isn’t all that big when it comes to Active Hybrid models.
With the new eDrive systems, things might turn around though. The 7er and X5 will be amongst the first cars to benefit from the newly developed electric motors and batteries, ushering in a new era for BMW.
