Husqvarna makes a comeback to the supermoto segment, as the Swedish KTM-owned manufacturer announces its latest addition to the 2015 roster. The new machine is the FS 450, and it will become available later next month (October).
Like we kind of expect from all the new Husky bikes, the 2015 FS 450 is equipped with premium components which include Brembo brakes and WP suspensions, an usual trim for the KTM motorcycles. Husqvarna is no stranger to supermoto glory, as no less than 6 world titles and 4 European ones have been written to its name so far. Whether the past glory can be restored, we’ll surely find out next year…
The 2015 Husqvarna FS 450 is exceptionally light, tipping the scales as 110.5 kg (244 lb) dry, to which running fluids and a full 7.5-liter (2 US gal) tank are added. The bike rolls with a chromoly steel double cradle frame, a polyamide rear subframe and extruded aluminium swingarm, plus lightweight wheels.
Its 449cc SOHC single is said to produce around 60 horsepower, and it mated to a 5-speed transmission via an Adler anti-hopping heavy-duty clutch. A radial 4-piston Brembo caliper squeezes the single 310mm rotor, while a single-pot caliper does the same to a 220m disc. The bike arrives with race-ready Metzeler slicks for instant hooliganism. Wonder whether Husqvarna will ever hear our prayers and deliver a street version of this machine, a bike which might quickly enter the urban brawler elite, and even climb to the top of the charts.
While a street-legal city slicer derived from the competition FS 450 is not at all a certain future, you should know that the base price for the all-new 2015 supermoto beast is €9,669 ($12,590).
