Husaberg and Husqvarna Back Together under KTM Umbrella

What comes around goes around, they say: after the recent industry stir with the KTM CEO Stefan Pierer buying Husqvarna from BMW, it looks like we've just entered a new era in the history of the off-road bikes, especially with Husaberg already under the KTM umbrella.

Pierer was extremely clear that he bought the brand to turn Husqvarna back to the roots: off-road biking. Pierer was not at all happy with the new Husqvarna street models and promised things will change. As much as we loved the Nuda, we might just have to let it go, Pierer wants us to get used to the idea.

Now it seems like the bonds between Husqvarna and BMW will also be cut loose, and Pierer plans to bring the three off-road brands closer together, doing some serious cross-pollination and hoping that each one will draw profit from this stunt.

Husqvarna already has some small-displacement plans for India and the rest of the Asian growing markets, and could certainly do well there. Ont he other hand, with Husaberg being a premium brand, we really doubt it would appeal that much in said parts of the world, so we figure that the two Swedish bikes will simply “learn form each other” and become better, while still remaining separate bikes, despite their common past.

Things are on the move in the off-road industry, and we expect quite a nice outcome now that these three bikes are more or less under the same hands. And adding the potential of KTM's partner Bajaj in the equation makes things even more interesting. Told you 2013 will be fun...
