Hunter-Reay Signs Andretti Autosport Deal for 2010

Andretti Autosport announced the signing of American racer Ryan Hunter-Reay for the 2010 season of the IndyCar Series. However, it's not all good news for the former Vision Racing and AJ Foyt Racing driver, as Hunter-Reay is yet to secure sponsorship for an full campaign in the series.

All the other Andretti Autosport racers are regulars in the championship – Danica Patrick, Tony Kanaan and Marco Andretti – with Hunter-Reay being the only one guaranteed a few rounds, including the famous Indy 500 event.

Hunter-Reay will therefore replace Hideki Mutoh in the former AGR outfit, as the latter is currently linked with a move to Newman Haas Lanigan Racing for a 3rd entry in the 2010 championship.

Joining a team of Andretti Autosport's caliber has been my goal for the entire 16 years of my racing career and being able to strengthen my ties to everyone at IZOD through this effort is tremendous. This is the opportunity of a lifetime and I am ready to give 120 percent to the program,” said the 29-year old racer.

Team's owner Michael Andretti also admitted his enthusiasm over signing the 2007 IndyCar Rookie of the Year winner, while feeling confident that he'll be able to find the necessary finance to support a full programme for his 4th entry in 2010.

We are excited about what we've put together with PVH and Ryan, and believe we can grow this program substantially over the next several months. (...) How far we take him into 2010 is still in the works, but we feel good about the potential that we will add Ryan to our driver lineup for the full season,” added Andretti.

Hunter-Reay is race winner in both the ChampCar and IndyCar Series, as he became the first American rookie in over 2 decades to take the chequered flag in an IndyCar event, at Surfers Paradise (2003), as reported by the IndyCar official site.
