A huge recall from the Motor Company was voluntarily issued and a fleet 29,000-strong is expected to be brought in for fixing a clutch-related issue. As the recall is listed with a "Do Not Ride" tag, it is advisable that customers heed Harley-Davidson and not get on their CVO machines until the problem in detected and repaired.
Tony Wilcox, Harley-Davidson General Manager of Motorcycle New Product Delivery said that it is extremely important and "critical that (our) customers with affected vehicles contact their dealers immediately."

25,185 touring motorcycles are affected: FLHTCU, FLHTK, FLHTP, FLHX, FLHXS, FLHTKSE and FLHRSE, while 3,861 Softail CVOs and Trikes, models FLHTCUTG, FXSBSE and FLSTNSE are targeted by this recall. If your bike was manufactured between May 3, 2013 and Oct. 14, 2013, drop by your dealer or contact Harley at 414.343.7988.

The problem affect the bikes equipped with a hydraulic clutch. In some cases, the clutch may not generate enough lift power and could fail to disengage, this in turn, leading to the impossibility of safely slowing down or stopping, placing riders and passengers in serious danger.

"The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration is closed as a result of the partial government shutdown, but Harley-Davidson is proceeding with these voluntary recalls consistent with NHTSA's process," an official H-D statement says.
