Huge Batwing Spotted on Set of Batman: The Dark Knight Rises

We’ve already seen a new Batmobile that’s armed to the teach and looks like a tank, plus the Bat-pod, that blends motorcycle mobility with aggressive looks. Now, thanks to the efforts of Youtube used subaruwrxfan, we can reveal the ultimate tool in Batman’s ‘belt’ - a flying machine that’s as wide as two lanes.

In the past, Batman’s airplane of choice was a more conventional-looking jet, but this latest version brings elements from vertical take off and landing (VTOL) aircraft like the JSF and V-22 Ospray. The monster was spotted on the set in Pittsburgh, where director Christopher Nolan's superhero epic flick takes shape.

The scene starts off with a big army transportation truck squeezing its way through a tight street, however the Batwing dwarfs even that, as it comes into view on a back of a vehicle specially designed with hydraulic systems that make it look like it’s swaying in Gotham’s windy conditions.

There’s a couple of engines at the front pushing it along, and some serious firepower is fitted on the front end.

Given the fact that in the last movie the Bat-pod came out of a tumbler, it’s reasonable to speculate that the Batwing is a transformed version of the same vehicle. Who know what Bruce Wayne can buy when money is no object!

It’s nice to see that Christopher Nolan isn’t all about the digital age, as he prefers to add realism through use of actual vehicles for the crazy stunts needed to pull off the latest Batman movies. When “The Dark Knight Rises” hits theaters, it will probably be the most epic of all the films in the franchise.
