Hublot Makes Ayrton Senna Tribute Watch

Ayrton Senna is probably the best known F1 driver of all time, racing for 10 years from 1984 until his death at Imola in 1994. He is also remembered as a great philanthropist, giving away millions to underprivileged children in his home country. So we find it fitting that Hublot has created a Special Tourbillon watch to commemorate the racing legend.

The watch is made from a number of high-tech materials used in Formula 1, such as the Nomex fibers which have never been used on a time-piece before. The King Power Tourbillon Ayrton Senna, as the watch is called, has a case made entirely from carbon fiber, also a first for Hublot watches. The watch maker has also used ceramics for the bezel, which is shaped to look like a ventilated brake disc. The strap is made from synthetic Nomex fibers, which have been developed by Dupont De Nemours and used to make fire resistant suits for F1 drivers.

The watch has a single push button for the start, stop and reset functions. Complications include a 30 minute counter placed at 10 o’clock and a 60 second counter, placed next to it at 2 o’clock. The movement, called HUB 6300, is built in-house by Confrerie Horlogere Hublot themselves, and features 269 moving parts. It measures 30 mm in diameter and features a 13 mm cage with no ball bearings and a light-weight construction.

The watch is sold in a carbon fiber presentation care, which also includes a replica of Senna’s helmet. All helmets are painted by Sid Mosca, who also painted the driver’s real racing ones.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
