HRT F1 to Develop Own Car in 2011

Only 4 races have been completed in this year's Formula One championship and the guys at Hispania Racing F1 Team are already thinking of switching focus on their 2011 single-seater. Although they won't begin to develop the 2011 car just yet, HRT's Romanian-born chief Colin Kolles hinted that such a decision might be taken sooner rather than later.

However, there's only one minor thing that needs to be taken into account, which is the fact that HRT F1 will no longer partner Italian chassis manufacturer Dallara for the 2011 project. What's even more of a news is the fact that the Spanish team wants to develop their next year's car all by themselves.

The next step is that we get our own development programme running and then for 2011 build our own car. We are going to try to improve this car as much as possible. But eventually we will have to draw a line and focus on next year,” Kolles was quoted as saying in an interview with sport1.de.

After heavily criticizing Dallara for the poor job they did on the 2010 challenger, Kolles vows to take care of business personally in the next few years, in order to develop HRT F1 into a strong mid-field team in Formula One. His CV speaks for itself, as he argued every project he headed in the series was eventually turned into a more competitive, valuable organization.

I cannot afford to do F1 personally, so I create value for other people. I did it for Midland, for Spyker and the Mol family, and so on. The team always sold for more money because it had developed. And people who know about it know that I am the only one who can do it. I don't mean that arrogantly, it's quite simply because no one else has the infrastructure and the know-know,” added Kolles.

He also emphasized the fact that his team needs young, capable engineers that are willing to put in extra hours of work for less money than the “superstars” that have few challenges left in the sport.

We cannot afford superstars,” concluded Kolles.
