You know how much Toyota care about the environment, trying to protect it in more ways than just offering us green cars. And one of its biggest achievements is that its plants can save 61 million gallons of water annually.
Plant processes like vehicle painting require pure water in order for the final product to come as it should. Typically, 25 percent of the water coming into a facility is not suitable for this kind of delicate processes, but by implementing a system called reverse osmosis, the water can be purified before reaching the manufacturing process.
The dirty water goes through prefilters and is fed into a reverse osmosis system that further separates impurities. After this step, around 25% of the water was wasted because its quality was not suitable, but the new way now buts the water through a brackish reverse osmosis system and after further filtering, 60 percent of that waste goes back into the first reverse osmosis system.
As a result, the system has been improved from a 75 percent use rate to a 90% one.
