Not only that the cruise control makes long distance driving on the highway more pleasing, but it actually helps fuel consumption if you use it correctly, by setting it to maintain a speed that matches the optimum revs per second range which allows the engine to burn fuel efficiently.
Modern cars, like the Lexus CT 200h can be fitted with a dynamic radar cruise control, which adapts to the speed of a slower car in front of you from a certain distance, without having to focus and do it manually.
To enable the distance keeping feature, if your CT has it, you have to press the button on the steering wheel after you’ve enabled the cruise control. The same button lets you cycle through the preset distances if repeated multiple times.
To disable the distance holding feature, pull the cruise control stock towards you and hold it for at least two seconds until the indicator in the dashboard disappears.
The feature will automatically be disabled in the following scenarios: speed falls bellow 25 mph (40 km/h), vehicle stability control kicks in, the sensor behind the grille is covered or blocked, the brake is applied or the windshield wipers work continuously.
