Some modern cars, like the 2010 Toyota Prius, don’t use the classic ignition key to be inserted in the switch and fire up the engine. Instead, they use small devices, commonly known as key fobs, or a proximity switch key.
It’s function is a bit more complicated than of a classic key: the car has a proximity sensor which detects the key fob when you approach. The it sends a request code, to which the fob has to provide an answer code in order to validate that it’s the correct user approaching and to able him open the car and start the engine. It works like those security passwords you set up for your e-mail.

So, you will need an key fob, a laptop, an OBD cable and a special software, like the one from KeylessRide shown in the tutorial. It is pretty intuitive to use and you will see that in the clip bellow.
