How to Replace Spark Plugs on 2000-2009 Toyota Avensis

Spark plugs are not designed to last forever and at some point they’ll reach their life ending due to carbon deposits on the tips or a crack in the ceramic insulation.

Replacing them is an easy task which you can do at home, all you need being the replacement ones according to your model, a 10 mm socket with ratchet, pliers and a spark plug wrench. Here are the steps:
  • Leave the engine to cool off and open the hood
  • Remove the two nuts from the plastic engine covers
  • Take out the engine cover by removing the plastic screw in the top left side
  • Disconnect the battery’s negative terminal
  • Unplug the ignition coils electric connections
  • Remove the bolts on each coil
  • Take all the coils out
  • Insert the wrench and remove the spark plugs from their holes
  • Put the new spark plugs in and carefully screw them back in
  • Mount everything back and start the engine.
