The oil filter’s job in your Toyota Corolla is to make sure no impurities in the engine oil get to ruin parts that are rubbing on each other. But with time, it gets clogged up and you need to change it.
Its best that you also change the engine oil together with the filter. It’s the most basic engine maintenance job you can perform to assure its longevity. You’ll only need a special filter wrench (which you can usually buy from where you get the fresh oil) and a catch pan for the used oil. Here are the steps:

- Warm up the car’s engine and then stop it
- Open the hood and pop out the engine oil cap
- Get underneath and remove the oil pan drain bolt to drain the used oil into the catch pan
- Leave it to completely drain while you remove the oil filter according to the video bellow
- Screw the new oil filter in and put the drain nut back
- Fill up with fresh oil.
