If your Toyota Tundra interior gets filled with a foul smell when you turn on the AC, that is because you forgot to maintenance the cabin filter.
The cabin filter cleans the air that enters the car via the AC unit so it’s normal that from time to time it gets clogged up and stinky. When this happens you need to replace it and it is also good to use special cleaning solutions for the AC plumbing because that can too form bacteria and fungus which may cause respiratory problems.
Changing the cab filter is one of the easiest maintenance jobs that can be performed on a vehicle, so you don’t need to see a service for that. You won’t need any tools, just a new air filter.
In order to gain access to the filter, you need to remove the glovebox so:
Open the glovebox and locate the retaining strut on the right holding a cylindrical piece on the glovebox drawer
Remove the strut
Now the drawer is held in place by two little “ears” on each side so you can just pull the drawer forward and remove it
You’ve gained access to the filter casing which is located behind the rectangular black cover
Pinch its tabs on each side and remove it
Pull the filter out and replace it with the new one. Pay attention to put it with the right side up
Put the cover back and mount the glovebox drawer on.
