Damaged or you simply want to swipe it for something else, this tutorial will show you how to take the steering wheel off from a Mk6 Toyota Hilux Vigo.
It’s pretty easy and you will only need normal toolbox. Make sure it has torx bits and extenders.
For the video part of how its done, play the clip bellow.
- First thing first, since you have a live airbag inside the steering wheel, go disconnect the battery and make sure the cable won’t accidentally come in contact with the battery while you are working.
- Next, unscrew the torx bolts on the sides of the steering wheel. This will let you disconnect the airbag/horn center part of the steering wheel
- Now disconnect the wires that keeps it attached to the rest of the steering wheel
- The last step consists in unscrewing the screw nut that holds the wheel attached to the steering column.
- Don’t forget to mark the position of the steering wheel related to a fixed part so you can put the other (or the same one) back in the same position.
