Thinking about just how important navigations system have become lately, it’s hard to picture how life was before all this tech came around. We actually remember using maps a while back, when traveling to a remote location we didn’t know and it was a blast...
These days, you just enter your destination into the car’s system and you’ll be there with no hassle whatsoever. As easy as a walk in a park. Literally. But what do you do when the aforementioned system fails you?

A couple of BMW owners have seemingly stumbled upon a rather interesting problem with Premium maps. After updating using non-authorized maps and FSC codes and a USB device, some people got an error saying ‘Unable to calculate route’.

While this error would usually pop up when the address you entered is not valid or there’s no physical road to connect you and the destination, after such updates, it would apparently pop up no matter of the entry. Basically, you can’t use the navigation system for it’s intended purpose.

Furthermore, turning the engine off and restarting wouldn’t fix it, despite the update being successful. What happened? Well, the GPS sensor works but the compass doesn't due to the new software.

In order to fix this issue, all you have to do turn off the engine and turn it back on while holding the volume button for about 30 seconds. After that, take your car for a quick drive around the neighborhood, trying to do a circuit that mimics the figure 8, to calibrate the car’s compass. That’s about it. Problem solved!
