It may sound like marketing trick coming from a skilled con, but there are no false pretenses in this: S&S Cycle is now offering a big bore engine kit which literally doubles the power of your Harley-Davidson Sportster 883.
S&S Cycle is now offering their all-new 1250 Big Bore Kit for Harley Sportsters, which can be installed on both the 883 and the 1200 versions. The kit is compatible with all the Sportsters model years 1986-2014, and can be bolted directly on the existing crankcase. The upgrade package comes with cylinders, pistons, piston bolts and rings, and all the needed gaskets.
According to the dynojet screenshot, the 883 Sportster in its stock shape delivered a maximum of 45.4 horsepower, whereas the 1250 Big Bore Kit provided 99.7 hp. The rear wheel torque went up from 47.3 lb-ft (64.2 Nm) to 81.6 lb-ft (110.7 Nm). Both new values are truly impressive and clearly show how much cooler a bike can your XL883 become.
S&S Cycle also recommends that customers install the matching 600 cams and CNC ported heads for being able to get the most of their upgraded Harleys. Even more, the kits are available in two versions, with flat-topped or pop-up pistons, with the latter increasing compression. S&S reports that flat-topped pistons offer 10.3:1, while the pop-up increase compression to 11.2:1 with both stock and CNC ported heads.
The kits are offered in wrinkle black powder coat and silver powder coat, for $989.95-999.95 (€722-730), and this makes the 1250 Big Bore Kit a very affordable buck-per-horsepower upgrade.
