Want to kick it oldschool and bought a second hand 90s Lexus LS400? You might consider changing that worn out gear stick knob with a new one to freshen up the interior a bit.
There are quite a few aftermarket ones but in this tutorial we will cover up the install of the Napolex LV-451 - LV455 aftermarket shifters.
Before you start, go grab some screwdrivers, a wire cutter and some pliers, especially a needle nose plier as you will work in some tight spaces.
First thing first, take a screwdriver and pry-open (gently of course) the wood trimming that surounds the gear shifter on the center console. Next, remove the indicator trim to gain access to the wires and mechanism.
Take out the tab from the front of the shifter and remove the two screws, which will enable you to pull out the shifter. Still, there will be a OEM white plastic piece on the top of the shaft, which you will have to remove and replace it with the aftermarket adaptor for the shifter knob you’ve purchased.
Then slide the new shifter knob, secure it with the screws provided and put back all the trimming you’ve dismantled earlier. For a better look at how it’s done, go and see the tutorial here.
